Common Entrance Exam for Central Universities 2025
The government has suggested that a Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUET) be conducted for the 54 Central Universities and institutions from the academic session 2025-2026, in a move that might be a game-changer for higher education in India.
Many people may be surprised to learn that a plan to reduce the strain of higher cut-offs in most prestigious central institutions has been in the works for quite some time.
However, the Common Entrance Test was made possible by the National Education Policy (NEP), which intends to introduce dramatic reforms to the country’s educational system.

There are now 54 Central Universities in India that are part of the cuet institutions, including the University of Delhi (DU), Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Banaras Hindu University (BHU), and others.
While the announcement may have stunned the average person, many are unaware that a Common Entrance Test has already been developed for the 13 newly founded Central Universities across several states.
While the present cuet is held once a year in an offline format, the National Testing Agency plans to hold the new Central Universities Common Entrance Test in an online format (NTA). For the academic year 2025-2026, the exam will be administered just once, but in later years, it will be administered twice a year, allowing students the opportunity to improve their results if necessary.
